Pres. Jackson urges Legislature to honor veterans with action

Words can not properly express our profound gratitude to the brave Americans who have stepped up to serve our country, and their loved ones, who have provided unwavering support while often making their own extraordinary sacrifices. It’s why we must match our words of praise and thanks with meaningful action. From supporting military families navigating the challenges that come with active-duty life, such as dealing with a parent overseas or frequent moves across the country, to supporting veterans in the transition from military to civilian life, Maine has made great strides in the Legislature this year. But there is much more work to be done.
Pres. Jackson earns perfect score for support of students, teachers

Every morning, Maine teachers show up to work to educate, coach and inspire the next generation of workers, business owners, parents and community leaders – even in the toughest of circumstances, finding creative and innovative ways to reach their students. It’s nothing short of remarkable. Our teachers need more than words of gratitude from politicians. They deserve our respect, our support and our commitment to match our words with action. It’s why I am proud of my work this session to ensure that teachers are compensated fairly for the heroic work they do and have the necessary resources to do the job well.
Pres. Jackson earns perfect score for voting record on health care, reproductive rights

It’s simple – access to health care is about the freedom of Mainers to live healthy and fulfilling lives. This includes reproductive health care. In the wake of national efforts to undermine access to care and erode reproductive rights, I want to be clear – the Maine Senate Democrats are not interested in going backward.

Pres. Jackson announces “hazard paychecks” for 500,000+ Maine workers begin today

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, working Mainers stepped up and continued to serve our communities, often in the toughest of circumstances. It only seemed right to do something to show our gratitude and appreciation by providing some modest relief as we head into the holiday season.
Jackson earns perfect score for 2021 voting record on environment

AUGUSTA – Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash, earned a perfect score from the Maine Conservation Voters for his votes this session to preserve Maine’s natural resources, promote energy independence and protect the public from harmful chemicals. President Jackson was one of 18 state senators to earn a perfect score on the 2021 Environmental Scorecard released […]
Non-emergency laws championed by President Jackson, Senate Dems take effect

With more ways to participate in the Maine Legislature than ever before, Mainers set the legislative agenda this session, not special interests, political hacks or lobbyists. It’s how we were able to translate the stories we heard from constituents throughout the pandemic into legislative action, passing laws to rein in outrageous health care costs, provide meaningful property tax relief, honor our veterans and support survivors of domestic violence. That is how the legislative process should be.
Jackson stands with Wabanaki Alliance in support of Tribal Sovereignty

We don’t treat the tribes in Maine like the other 570 federally recognized tribes in 49 other states. We’re leaving transportation infrastructure, educational opportunities, economic growth, and protecting our shared outdoors heritage of hunting and fishing on the table, while those 570 other tribes and 49 other states benefit and take advantage of those opportunities.
President Jackson welcomes reopening of Maine-Canadian border

The announcement marks a huge sigh of relief for many families in Aroostook County, who have gone months, if not longer, without seeing their relatives on the other side of the border, and many businesses who rely on both Maine and Canadian customers to keep their doors open. I don’t think people realize just how difficult it has been for those of us living along the border, who enter and exit Quebec or New Brunswick on a regular basis. It has caused both emotional and economic hardship.
Jackson, Legislative Council vote to join lawsuit in support of Maine lobstermen

AUGUSTA – Today, Maine’s Legislative Council unanimously voted to sign on to a lawsuit filed in the United States District Court in Bangor, seeking emergency relief related to the impending closure of Lobster Management Area 1. Last month, the Maine Legislature overwhelmingly approved a joint order from Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash, allowing the 10-member, […]
